Compare PVC-U Window Systems

Most UK PVC-U windows are built from a small handful of profile systems. Understanding which one sits behind a quotation — and what actually determines quality — puts you in control of the comparison.

Why the profile brand isn't the whole story

A system name tells you less than you'd think

Ask five installers for a quotation and you will likely hear two or three of the same profile names come back. That's normal: a small number of systems companies supply the vast majority of British fabricators. The brand on the profile is only the starting point.

The fabricator

The company that welds and finishes the profile into a window has more influence over quality than the systems house whose name is on the extrusion.

The glass

The glazed unit — its build, spacer bar and coatings — usually does more to determine comfort and performance than the frame profile around it.

The installation

Even the best system, fabricated well, can under-perform if it is fitted, sealed or finished poorly on site.

How to compare

How to compare quotations that name different systems

You do not need to memorise every profile system on the market. You need to ask the same handful of questions of every quotation you receive.

  1. 01

Ask which exact range is quoted — chamfered, sculptured or flush — not just the brand name.

  2. 02

Ask who fabricates the profile and how long the installer has worked with them.

  3. 03

Ask what glass unit, spacer bar and hardware are included — these usually vary more than the frame.

  4. 04

Use our comparison pages to see two systems set out side by side on the points that actually matter.
